Your outdoor summer starter pack
ft. my picks from the REI anniversary sale
One of the funny things about building Halfdays is that even though we’re known for ski wear, the business itself never really slows down seasonally. If anything, summer tends to be just as chaotic — just with more travel, more shoots, and slightly better weather.
This summer already feels very “booked but trying my best.” We have a Halfdays shoot in Switzerland in June that I’m hoping to tack some hiking onto, I’m trying to squeeze in a few mountain weekends out West or in the PNW where I can, and I’ll be spending a lot of time in Aspen in between everything else.
Realistically, most of my weeks still look like back-to-back meetings, product reviews, fundraising conversations, and way too much time on my laptop. But I’ve learned that if I don’t intentionally make space to get outside a little bit during the summer, I blink and it’s October.
And honestly, having trips or weekends on the calendar, even small ones, gives me something to look forward to when work inevitably gets insane.
Cue the REI anniversary sale. REI has been one of our longtime retail partners at Halfdays, but beyond that, it’s also usually when I start panic-ordering all the gear I convince myself I need for the version of summer I’m hoping to have.
Below are a few of my favorite picks for hikes, biking, long weekends in the mountains, and all of the outdoor plans I’m attempting to squeeze into the next few months.
